Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was conceived in Miami,
Florida on November 30 1977. American electro-house musician as well as record
producer, D.J. Music executive. He is the third child of Chizuru Kobayashi
& Rocky Aoki. His father was a former wrestler, who also helped start
the restaurant chain Benihana. There are two of his older siblings, a sister
Kana (who is often referred to by her middle name Grace) & brother
Kevin (owner of Doraku Sushi restaurant). Half-sister Devon Aoki is a model and
actress. He was born in Newport Beach, California and graduated from Newport
Harbor High School, in which he was a part of the varsity badminton team. He
went on to UC Santa Barbara, graduating w/ 2 B.A. He graduated with two
bachelor's degrees: one in feminist Studies and the one in Sociology. He made
DIY recordings and held underground performances from his Biko room at the
Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative during his time at college. The
Pickle Patch was born as a concert venue. He was active in student activism and
founded the Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League section on campus. In the
early 20s, Dim Mak had established his own record label known as Dim Mak after
his favorite childhood idol Bruce Lee. In March of 2010 the singer released I'm
in the House, a collaboration w/ the Zuper Blahq, the alter-ego of The Black
Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. It hit No. 29 on the U.K. singles chart in its
initial week. The song climbed into the top five on both the U.K. Indie Chart
and the U.K. Dance Chart. The song was featured in an episode of MTV's Jersey
Shore as well as in the feature film Piranha & the trailer for Think
Like A Man. Producer and songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a interview with
HitQuarters that he & Rivers Cuomo had recently worked w/ Aoki on one
song. He was named the highest-grossing American dance artist by Pollstar in
2012. His collaborations include artists like Afrojack, LMFAO and Linkin Park,
Will.i.am. Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke. BTS, Louis Tomlinson. Rise
Against. Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He is well-known for his remixes of
artists such as Kid Cudi.
